Kyle Mapp

Director of Bands
 

Kyle Mapp is the Director of Bands at Bayside Intermediate School, in Clear Creek I.S.D. Mr. Mapp conducts the Wind Ensemble, assists with the Symphonic Winds, and teaches beginning Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, and Saxophone.

Mr. Mapp is proud to continue the traditions of excellence at Bayside Intermediate. Mr. Mapp’s bands have consistently received UIL Sweepstakes ratings, as well as unanimous first division ratings, “Best in Class” and “Overall Outstanding Ensemble” honors across the state of Texas. In 2017 and 2019 the Bayside Band earned distinction as a National Wind Band Honors Class A national winner, and in 2015, 2017, 2019 the Bayside Band was recognized as the TMEA Class CC 13th, 2nd, and 3rd runner up, respectively. 

Mr. Mapp received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Houston, Moores School of Music and Master’s in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Associations, National Association for Music Education, and Kappa Kappa Psi, . When not in the classroom, Mr. Mapp enjoys spending time with his dogs Oliver and Grover, cooking, baking, reading, playing video games, and spending time with friends. Mr. Mapp is a proud supporter of the Clear Falls High School Band and is very thankful to work in the Clear Creek Community.

 

 

Carlos Cabrera

Assistant Band director
 

Carlos Cabrera, a native of Robstown, Texas, is in his seventeenth year of teaching and is currently the Assistant Band Director at Bayside Intermediate in Clear Creek Independent School District.  His responsibilities at Bayside Intermediate include directing the non-varsity group, assisting the varsity group, and teaching the beginner brass, woodwind and percussion classes. Prior to his appointment at Bayside Intermediate, Mr. Cabrera was the Assistant Band Director at Kahla Middle School in Cypress Fairbanks ISD where his bands had received consecutive UIL Sweepstakes in Region 27 and his students had consistently placed in the Region 27 TMEA All-Region Band. Mr. Cabrera’s bands also competed at various music festivals throughout the city of Houston and had recently won the Space City Showcase of Music Festival “Runner-Up in Class” at the University of Houston. 

Mr. Cabrera holds a Bachelors of Music Education from Texas Tech University where he studied trombone with Don Lucas and performed with the nationally recognized trombone choir. While at Texas Tech, he studied music education under Keith Bearden and was a member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland.  Mr. Cabrera also holds a Masters of Music degree from The University of Houston with an emphasis in Conducting. While at the University of Houston, he studied with David Bertman and John Benzer. 

Mr. Cabrera is an active member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association and judges UIL concert and sight-reading contest throughout the state. He is also a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha and the Association of Texas Professional Educators.  Mr. Cabrera also works with Directors Choice in coordinating music festivals throughout the city of Houston.

In his spare time Mr. Cabrera enjoys performing regularly throughout the city of Houston and with his brass quintet “Coastal Bend Brass” in which his brother Miguel plays French horn.  He is an avid runner and enjoys running 5K’s throughout the city of Houston. His father Charles is the Director of Bands for the Cotton Picker Band of Robstown High School and his brother Miguel is the Director of Bands for the Boll Weevil Band at Seale Junior High, both in the Robstown Independent School District.  Mr. Cabrera and his lovely wife and high school sweetheart Jennifer, have five of the greatest children on the planet: Carlos, Felicity, Madelyn, Tony and Claire Annette.
